Bom, agora q questão eh soh esperar, mas se realmente o darren estourar lah nos eua, a chance dele fazer sucesso por aki eh mto grande tbm. US in a spin over sexy Darren
Darren Hayes is celebrating reaching the top of the American Billboard club play dance charts with his single Pop!ular, but behind the scenes of his success there has been an epic struggle with his record label to release his third album in the US.
Hayes's album The Tension And The Spark (which S named as the best pop album of 2004) caused consternation among executives at Sony Music – his parent record label – because of its raunchy feel.
In a letter to local radio station Nova FM, celebrating news of Hayes's current singles chart success, his longtime manager John Woodruff has revealed his frustration at the American attitude: "As you know we have been having some problems getting the Americans with their newfound conservatism to hear just how good this Darren record is."
"We decided to let the public choose. We put out a number of mixes across the US clubs and here's the result this week."
The strategy to remix some of Hayes's singles, including Pop!ular, has paid off handsomely – and Woodruff has revealed the success of the singles has prompted the US label to prepare a release date for the album.
"[Pop!ular] has taken off like wildfire in all the dance cubs in the USA and, so much so, that this week it is the most played track across the nation in the American club scene", he wrote.
There's no denying The Tension And The Spark was a creative shift for Hayes, after his success with mainstream Savage Garden hits including Truly, Madly, Deeply and I Knew I Loved You.
The singer has sold more than 20 million records so far, so the initial decision to delay his album release in the US seems like madness.
But because his new album features sexy (and occasionally sexually ambiguous) lyrics, it was seen as a risk – especially by the conservative radio stations that have been playing his Savage Garden hits continuously since day one.
Here's hoping the brilliance of The Tension And The Spark will eventually filter through to a wider audience in the US.
Hayes is now gearing up for promotional duties in the US, but he will be back in Australia this week. He is the headline performer at the Mardi Gras party in Sydney on Saturday night.
And all I can say is - the public chose well. Go Darren.

Rating: 4 stars out of 6.
You still miss the creative challenges from his old Savage Garden partner Daniel Jones. But in comparison to the somewhat lame solo debut "Spin", Darren Hayes' new album "The Tension And The Spark" is definitely a step in the right direction.
Last time it sounded like the happy but somewhat confused Australian didn't know who he was. The music flapped along like a weak Michael Jackson copy. And the texts made Lenny Kravitz sound like William Shakespeare.
But now Darren has fortunately taken a lot of time to look deep within himself. He has regained his glow and a quiet electronica-pop tone, which sets the setting around a row of fine and soul-searching texts. "Darkness" and "Dublin Sky" are definitely the highlights of the album. But it all adds up nicely. And you can once again believe in the artist Darren Hayes".

3. eu percebi q eu fiz uns comentarios meio negativos sobre o TTATS, mas msm ainda nao tendo comprado o cd, eu jah ouvi varias das musicas e gostei bastante. "I Like the Way" eh otima, por exemplo. Soh axei meio estranho "Void" e "Unloveble" [axo q eu escrevi errado, mas blz].

Tradução da matéria Single Focus, publicada em agosto/setembro, nao me lembro ao certo, e que eu tinha prometido q eu ia traduzir. E então, tchanãnan! Eis a matéria traduzida! (soh com uma década de atraso...mas blz ;)
Primeira parte:
SINGLE FOCUS
Darren Hayes chegou ao topo do mundo e sentiu o gostinho do fracasso. Agora ele está de volta com um novo álbum e o single “Popular”, mas o sucesso ainda pode ser um caso solitário.
Darren Hayes - cujo nome era comumente seguido de “você sabe, o cara do Savage Garden” - estava em Sidney para promover seu primeiro álbum solo, Spin. Depois de um longo tempo tingindo o cabelo de preto, o cantor mudou drasticamente o visual “pós-fim de banda”, ressurgindo com um cabelo loiro e chapado. Andando pelo aeroporto, cercado por fãs e bajuladores, Hayes se comportava como se estivesse muito ocupado e fosse importante demais para ser entrevistado por qualquer um que estivesse pelo caminho.
Naquela época, o cantor estava confiante que venderia pelo menos umas 10 milhões de cópias do Spin. Afinal, ele era o vocalista de uma dupla que vendera mais de 20 milhões de álbuns em quatro anos, uma banda pop cujas canções como Truly Madly Deeply e I Knew I Loved You tinham nascido para tocar nas rádios, espalhando toda essa “melosidade” nos ouvintes que iam da Inglaterra ao Brasil. Mas, à parte da nova imagem de Hayes, com seus cabelos loiros e óculos escuros (ou talvez por causa disso), Spin foi um fiasco. Suas vendas não ultrapassaram a marca de 2 milhões de cópias vendidas no mundo todo e, apesar de ter garantido um disco de ouro na Austrália, o álbum foi considerado um fracasso na indústria musical e também pelo próprio Hayes.
Três anos depois, o cantor de 32 anos de Brisbane não tem dúvidas sobre como ele seria se Spin tivesse sido um sucesso. “Provavelmente um patético, provavelmente um mostro” diz, adentrando o pequeno estúdio de gravação de West London. “Foi um álbum tão autocentrado e feito sobre tanta pressão, além de, talvez, excesso de prepotência. Eu admito isso agora, sentindo que pequei pelo excesso.” Ele descreve o período de Spin como “uma mancha” (de vaidade em excesso, não de vícios – o cantor diz que nunca foi usuário de drogas e que seu maior vício são os carboidratos). “Eu vinha da maior banda de sucesso em anos da Austrália e eu acho que a gravadora estava fazendo muito alarde sobre isso”
Hayes havia entrado de cabeça na vida de pop star. Fez amizade com Elton John e Kyle Minogue. Nas celebrações dos eventos americanos, ele cruzava o tapete vermelho sem a presença de Daniel Jones, que não era muito chegado em aparições públicas. “Você não ficaria surpreso se alguém o acusasse de dar muita atenção a si mesmo,” diz Dean Buchanan, diretor de programação da DMG Radio Austrália. Mas Hayes admite que não levou muito tempo para que a fama perdesse a graça “Para ser franco, eu não me importava mais com essa coisa da atenção depois do primeiro ano de fama” diz. Jones confirma que “às vezes o Darren pirava para ser o centro das atenções e depois no outro dia, ficava todo envergonhado e não queria aparecer para ninguém.”
O cantor diz que ficou extremamente abalado pela forma como passou a ser visto após o fim do Savage Garden , que acabou oficialmente em 2001. “Eu me senti como a Yoko Ono dos Beatles australianos. Minha vontade era gritar para quem quisesse ouvir, ‘Não foi isso que aconteceu’. Eu continuaria no Savage Garden pelo resto da minha vida (ele fica com lágrimas nos olhos nesse momento). Não foi idéia minha (terminar a banda). Eu fui apedrejado por querer continuar”
Hayes passou a ser visto como o causador do fim do Savage Garden, depois de revelar numa entrevista para um jornal de Melbourne que a banda havia acabado. Depois, alguns jornalistas chegaram a afirmar que Jones só ficou sabendo do fim após ler a reportagem. Entretanto, foi Jones que iniciou o processo de término, se retirando aos poucos do envolvimento com a banda e deixando Hayes sozinho fingindo que tudo ia ás mil maravilhas para o público e para a mídia.
Enquanto Jones ganhava admiração na Austrália por não se importar com a fama e por abrir um estúdio de gravação em Brisbane, Hayes procurava insistentemente fama nos Estados Unidos. “Creio que Daniel foi realmente esperto – ele trabalhou pra valer no começo,” Hayes diz. “Eu meio que fui crucificado por ser o “aparecido”.” O fracasso de Spin em transformar Darren num famoso cantor solo levou-o a dois anos de procura por seu verdadeiro eu. Ele até chegou a recorrer a conselhos de outros artistas pop. “Eu me lembro de ter conversado com a Kylie (Minogue) sobre como eu me sentia naquela época” diz. “Ela me disse ‘Você só tem que manter a cabeça erguida. Você deve seguir para onde o sol brilhar.’ Hayes também relembra uma passagem de 1998 com Bono – cuja música o inspirava desde cedo. Os dois se encontraram em Sidney nos backstages de um show do U2. “O Savage Garden tinha acabado de estourar, tivemos nosso primeiro lugar na América. Bono disse ‘como vai?” e eu disse, ‘Eu estou bem, me sinto bastante gratificado, bastante abençoado. Mas as vezes, quando eu estou no palco, fico ouvindo toda aquela gritaria das fãs e a única coisa que eu quero é que elas ouçam minha voz” E ele pegou a minha mão e pôs sobre o coração dele e falou ‘Se a música partir daqui, será muito mais alta do que qualquer voz.’ “Eu levei anos para compreender o que ele havia me dito” diz Hayes, que irá lançar seu novo álbum, The Tension And The Spark, no próximo mês. “Agora cheguei à conclusão de que eu fiz este álbum sem nenhum tipo de pretensão. Eu amo esse meu novo trabalho; foi a primeira vez que eu fiz um álbum que eu tenho vontade de sair cantando por aí. E eu vou toca-lo para todos os meus amigos.” Não apenas isso. Hayes insiste que com este álbum, ele finalmente foi sincero. Há a angústia e obscuridade em faixas como Darkness e Unlovable, um tom mais alegre em Ego e Popular. Antes mesmo de ser lançado, Popular era a música mais pedida nas rádios australianas. Robert Conley, produtor americano e amigo íntimo de Darren (ele é casado com sua produtora, Leonie Messer) e colaborador na parte instrumental de Tension, diz que a parte criativa foi vital.

“Estávamos sempre ouvindo músicas que eram muito mais legais que as dele – bandas tipo Basement Jaxx, U2 e Depeche Mode. E artistas como Madonna – pessoas que mudaram seu estilo e seguiram com as carreiras e falei ‘Por que você quer continuar escrevendo o mesmo tipo de música toda hora?’ Eu sei que ele consegue compor um milhão de baladas românticas – ele poderia vir aqui agora e nos entregar em 15 minutos uma balada romântica espetacular. Mas não há graça nisso; ele não sente mais prazer em fazer isso. Então eu pensei, ‘Você é mais legal do que isso. Você pode ser um daqueles artistas que envolvem e chocam todo mundo.’ Demorei um pouco pra convencer ele.”
Atualmente, Hayes aparenta estar bastante relaxado. Com 1.77, ele parece ser menor do que você possa imaginar e seu corpo é todo definido com duas horas diárias de exercícios – principalmente ioga e pesos. Além disso, ele também é inteligente (cursou jornalismo na Universidade de Queensland, “odiou” e mudou para magistério). E engraçado, imitando dançarinas brasileiras de tv e fazendo uma imitação até que boa de George W Bush.
Durante os últimos cinco anos, ele vive em Sausalito, às margens de San Francisco, dividindo uma casa com vista para a Golden Gate Bridge e Alcatraz com seu cocker spaniel, Wally. (Para o álbum, Hayes manteve seu sotaque australiano sem nenhuma influência norte americana.) Conley, que vive num bairro próximo, diz que Hayes gosta da vida pacata numa cidade californiana. “É muito calma, bastante arborizada. A gente anda de bicicleta e vai para a praia direto.”
No momento, Hayes está na Inglaterra promovendo seu novo álbum – um sinal claro de mudança de foco. E temporariamente está morando junto com seus amigos mais próximos: a produtora Messer, Conley, o bebê deles, Calvin, e a assessora pessoal de Hayes, Sharon Millington. E Wally, o cachorro, está para chegar em Londres a qualquer momento.
Mas para todos que estão ao seu redor, ele está por conta própria e se mostra reservado em relação à sua vida amorosa. Apesar das letras de uma de suas novas canções, Love and Attraction, que inclui o trecho “Eu quero ela, ela quer ele, ele me quer, eu cedo”, Hayes não diz se é heterossexual, gay ou bissexual. “Alguém me disse uma vez, ‘No final das contas, a única coisa que as pessoas querem saber é se é grande e onde você enfia,’” diz Hayes com uma risadinha insolente. “Eu me lembro de ter pensado, ‘Isso é tão grosseiro’ Mas é verdade. Seja qual for sua orientação, os amigos dizem que, Hayes, um assumido “romântico sonhador”, ainda procura o amor verdadeiro. O cantor, aos 22 anos, foi casado por quatro anos com a companheira Colby Taylor e ainda considera a ex-esposa como fiel confidente. (Taylor, que vive em Brisbane, não atendeu aos nossos pedidos de participar desta matéria.) A carreira de Hayes acabou sendo prejudicada pela separação mas ele nunca comentou qual foi o motivo da separação.
Houve outros amores desde então, mas “Estou solteiro já faz dois anos” diz Hayes. “Ultimamente, não estava tendo sorte no amor pois não estava em paz comigo mesmo” Atualmente, “ele não é tão assediado como você pensa” diz Conley, que conhece Hayes há cerca de 5 anos. “Quero dizer, ele é um cara bonito e com uma grande personalidade. Mas ele não é do tipo que fica saindo por aí – então é difícil pra ele arranjar relacionamentos. Ele está procurando a pessoa certa com as intenções certas . Quando se está nessa posição, é difícil de saber quais são as reais intenções das pessoas. As vezes você acaba sendo enganado. E definitivamente ele teme isso.”
Hayes tem motivos para ser cauteloso. Ele fala com bastante carinho sobre sua irmã mais velha, Tracey, 38, mãe de duas crianças, que cuida de seu fã clube oficial e com quem ele conversa todo dia ao telefone, sem exceção (Hayes também tem um irmão, Peter, 35). Crescendo em Woodridge, um subúrbio ao sul de Brisbane, ele e Tracey iam até a loja de discos Woody’s, onde Hayes depois chegou a trabalhar quando adolescente. A família deles não tinha dinheiro. “Tracey e eu íamos todo final de semana até lá e ficávamos olhando os vinis, conversando e tal. A gente não tinha dinheiro para comprar discos novos, mas comprávamos os de segunda-mão ou ganhávamos, e ela acabou me influenciando a gostar de Fleetwood Mac e Motown.”
Mas, por trás das recordações saudosas de Hayes, há uma estranha impressão de tristeza, até mesmo precaução, quando ele fala de sua infância com a família. O cantor é bastante próximo de seus pais, Judy e Robert, e de seus irmãos – ele vai para casa no Natal ou os familiares viajam para encontrá-lo – mas ele admite que as coisas não eram nada fáceis quando ele era menor.
“Definitivamente, tínhamos um convívio familiar muito turbulento,” diz Hayes. “Foi uma coisa que, como adulto, aprendi a esquecer. Creio que tentei compensar tudo tendo esse meu trabalho extraordinário, onde eu pensei que o mundo iria me aplaudir e torcer por mim e assim tudo ficaria bem. E não é verdade.” Ele lentamente balança a cabeça. “Obviamente, problemas da minha infância, todos os sentimentos de insuficiência. Há uma diferença entre dizer que você perdoa alguém e dizer que você esqueceu o que aconteceu.”
Hayes não entra em detalhes. Ele raramente fala sobre sua infância em entrevistas e aparenta não estar à vontade revelando detalhes de sua vida pessoal. “Essa entrevista é assustadora, por ser tão aberta, porque revela partes de mim que eu gostaria de manter guardado comigo mesmo. Mas eu não poderia falar sobre meu novo trabalho sem admitir que ele vem de algo muito pessoal”
Porém, ele diz “Eu não quero ter uma dessas matérias do tipo, ‘Oh meu Deus, minha vida torturada, minha infância torturada.’ Definitivamente eu passei por alguns problemas durante meu crescimento mas está tudo resolvido . Eu amo minha família agora. (Mas) Eu sou um cara de 32 anos e acho que acabei usando muita daquela obscuridade, muito do sofrimento, nesse cd. Eu estive escondendo isso por anos.”
Depois do lançamento de Spin, Hayes estava longe de querer gravar num modo tradicional. Conley diz que Hayes, que já é um multimilionário (o cantor compara sua fortuna como “ganhar na loteria”), não é consumido por sua carreira. “Seu foco não é a musica. Ele liga, desliga. Ele vai ao cinema quase toda noite (freqüentemente sozinho) mas ele não costuma sair muito – ele é muito mais anti-social do que você possa imaginar; ele é tipo uma anticelebridade. Ele não liga muito para isso.”
Mesmo após seu periodo de auto-busca pós-Spin, enquanto experimentava diferentes instrumentos, incluindo violão e piano e compondo junto com Conley no seu estudio caseiro, Hayes não admitia para sua gravadora – ou mesmo para si próprio – que estava trabalhando num novo álbum. Ele estava muito assustado com toda a pressão envolvida. Mas, fortemente eletronico, The Tension And The Spark, já está criando um alarido na indústria musical.
“Eu não estou nervoso,” diz Hayes. “Só estou feliz, porque não há nada do tipo trompetes dourados ou carpete vermelho. As pessoas estão esperando algo pouco impressionante e eu gosto disso. É uma ótima posição para se estar.”

HM:Darren, did you go sightseeing when you first came to Moscow two years ago?
DH:At that time I came to Russia with tour there was that tragedy with 'Nord-Ost' and my agents didn't let me go out of my hotel. I have a lot of plans now, I love fine arts and I will first go to your famous Tretiakov gallery. By the way, I haven't seen Red Square yet, but I have been dreaming to hear chime since my childhood.
HM:Did you want to be a famous singer when you were a child?
DH:Yes, and as you can see my dream came true! I moved from Australia to USA, I have settled in San-Francisco and succeed in life. But you know, I'm not so constant and I was false to San-Francisco (laughs). Now I live in New-York and I love everything about it - its aura, people, the weather. I believe I will buy a new house in the near future in New-York. Then I have to go shopping and look for new furniture and some accessories for the house... but that's great. By the way Moscow remindes me New -York in some way, it has the same energy and spirit, there are huge buildings everywhere, business fuss, lots of the theatres - it's an interesting place to live
HM: Is it true that all the songs for your new album The Tension And The Spark were written in your bedroom?
DH:Does it surprise you? If you noticed, I made a very sincere album, all my songs are the story of my life, it's about the meaning of it, about my feelings... The bedroom is a great place to think about all those things, being hidden from the whole world.
HM:So when have you started to think about the meaning of life?
DH:To be honest, I felt the difference between the world I want to live and the real world when I was at college.When Savage Garden became a successful band I realised that I live in a rough world. And this success gave me the notion about real showbiz, when you have to play a part of someone else, to pretend and even lie to be popular. I had never kept myself within the bounds of show-business, I wanted to stay honest with myself and with my fans.
HM:In your new song Popular you are making fun of those people who seek fame. How about you, don't you want to be popular?
DH: Well I see your question - why do I laugh at them if I am one of these people? Yeah, I want to be popular, it's a part of my profession. But I do not want to play the game of showbiz, I had never raise a stink, never made friends with other celebrities. You know about my private life exactly as much as I want you to know, don't you? I don't show a play of my private life, I just wish for real love and a family.
HM:Love and sex - what do they mean for you?
DH:Sex is great, but for me sexual attraction is just 5 per cent from real love, the rest of 95 are feelings and relationships. Though human nature traps us and people mostly think about making love. I for one really love kissing, but if you're doing that all day long, when do you talk with the girl? (laughs) And how do you know about her sense of humour and intellect? Love is a difficult thing actually, it hurts us often... I had enough pain in my life and I must admit there is no person I would want to be the rest of my life with. But I reassure myself that there are no accidents in life and it's all for the best.
HM:How do you escape from your sad thoughts?
DH: I do yoga and it helps a lot. It helps to relax and to be ready for work.
HM: Darren, you have said you want to be a father some day...
DH: I really love kids, but I'm not ready to have them at this period of my life. Fortunately, my best friend has a baby and I spend much time with him, go for a walk and read him fairy tales. It's an amazing feeling and I will certainly have kids one day.

In Oz he's used to sun, sea, and surf, so what would be a good holiday for Darren Hayes?
TOTP: What would your ideal holiday be?
Darren: You know, it's probably going home to Australia for Christmas, because I don't get home enough. Usually my family and I, we rent a big beach house somewhere and spend a week. The first three days, we have fun, and then the next few days, we kill each other! And then the last couple of days, we make up, and say, "Let's do it again next year!".
TOTP: Who would you take with you on your perfect holiday?
Darren: Sadly, my ideal holiday would probably involve the rellies right now, cos I'm [sings] "Lookin' for love in all the wrong places!" But if I was hooked up with some lovin', it would just be a duo.
TOTP: What would you do to avoid being recognised on holiday? Or is that not something that bothers you?
Darren: I wish I was the kind of celebrity that actually got holiday-snapped by the snapperazzi! But I'm not, sadly. I think the other day somebody took a picture of me getting a Starbucks, finally, after eight years in the public light, and it was just a tourist. But no, no disguises here. Just low-key family holidays.
TOTP: Would you like to be photographed when you're sunbathing?
Darren: I would HATE to be photographed when I'm sunbathing. I do feel for the people in the tabloids who get photographed with their gut hanging out, but I say, "Hey! Stop eating the tucker, the nachos, and the Mexican beer!"
TOTP: What kind of hotel would you go for? Are you a five-star luxury hotel man, or more of a quiet B B guy?
Darren: I like a mix of accommodations on my vacations. I like to sometimes stay at a five star resort with lots of pools, and lots of...cocktails (that I don't drink, because I don't drink alcohol) or sometimes I like to stay in a little B B - it's very cheap and you have to make your way.
TOTP: If you had to make a mix-tape to listen to on the plane, what would you put on it?
Darren: Umm...y'know, it's usually the records that I grew up with. I love iTunes for that reason, because you can put all the music you love on one database, and then just mix it up. So I usually just plug into my iTunes and press random, and see what memories pop up.
TOTP: Are you good at travelling light?
Darren: I am a terrible traveller, because I usually have much, much excess baggage. Yeah, I'm terrible. And then you get there, and you don't wear any of it. But you've gotta be prepared.
TOTP: Say you ended up at a holiday camp, would you join in the karaoke?
Darren: I definitely would not join in the karaoke! Once I was in a Brazilian resort, and everybody in the pool started to do the Macarena, and I almost died! I got told to lighten up.
TOTP: What about if it was one of your own songs?
Darren: Possibly, if I was really intoxicated, I might do one of my own songs. Or Whitney Houston.
TOTP: Do you try out the local delicacies on holiday, or do you stick with what you know?
Darren: I'm one of those tourists that if I'm in Paris, I go to Planet Hollywood. I do like good food and good restaurants, but it depends. I like creature comforts and sometimes I just wanna find the local Starbucks - that's a really sad thing to admit, isn't it?!
TOTP: You've seen what the British weather has been like. What would you do if it rained for the whole two weeks?
Darren: Well, coming to England for the summer, I've got very accustomed to thinking what to do if it rains, because it’s rained all the time since I've lived in London! See lots of movies, go to lots of art galleries, eat lots of food. I'm not really an outdoors-y sort of person anyway, so it doesn't really bother me.
TOTP: Just to finish off, some either/or questions. Shorts or speedos?
Darren: [instantly] Shorts!
TOTP: Barefoot or flip flops?
Darren: Flip-flops.
TOTP: Sunbathing or sightseeing?
Darren: Sightseeing.
TOTP: Out all day or out all night.
Darren: [thinks about this] All day.
TOTP: Swimming in the sea or swimming in the pool?
Darren: Swimming in the sea.

Ever since he arrived on the music scene, first as one half of Australian duo Savage Garden, and then as an equally successful solo artist, Darren Hayes has been a force to reckon with. In an exclusive conversation with The Record Darren talks about the personal nature of his new album, his thoughts on fame, and meeting the wax figure of a celebrity just days before actually meeting the real thing!
The Record: Tell us about your first single Pop!ular from your new album.
Darren: Pop!ular is the first single from my new record and it's a complete departure I think musically, lyrically, in many ways. That song is quite ironic to me. It's meant to be tongue in cheek, it's mean to be funny because it's a song talking about my perspective I guess as someone who considers himself to be quite a serious and sincere songwriter, in the middle of a very corporate world, a very competitive pop world in many ways. So it's kind of my take on the frustration I guess that I sometimes feel, with our fascination with fame and the machine and my own place within that.
TR: You're living in America and it's completely celebrity crazy out there. Did that play a part in this song?
Darren: Not really, I think if you know anything about me, you know I'm a terrible celebrity. I've managed to sell a lot of records without selling my soul. Because the truth is I really just love to sing. I love to sing and write songs and the rest of it I can leave. I honestly don't need to go to parties or red carpet events unless I'm told I have to promote something. I think in many ways the song was my reaction to radio and music television and a lot of the reality TV shows that are in the West, the way it's become a kind of global obsession with just being on the TV and being famous.
TR: The video for Pop!ular is very interesting. Tell us about it.
Darren: Originally I wrote the idea for the video and we did an experiment in New York, in Manhattan, and it was a lot of fun. It was just a friend of mine who had a video camera, and I took a ghetto blaster into the subways and onto 5th avenue and just sang the song to terrified Americans! And it was just funny to show how someone in my position could have to stoop so low actually. [Laughs] So we did it in London over three days with a film crew. Most of what you see in the video is real footage of people reacting to me bombarding places like Madame Tussauds, or a local convenience store or a bus, a train station with a troupe of dancers. We did
everything we could to get attention for myself and for the song and it was the most fun I think I've had in a video.
TR: Have you had any celebrity reactions to the song?
Darren: You know what's funny, we shot the video and there's this
one scene where Naomi Campbell's waxworks dummy and I have a conversation. And two days later I went to a Lenny Kravitz concert in London and I sat next to Naomi and was introduced to her. And I thought `Should I tell you…' [Laughs] So I met her waxworks figure before I met her!
TR: Are you back home right now to promote the album?
Darren: Yes I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I just got here yesterday, I'm suffering a terrible jet lag. It's such a long flight from London. I'm here for 10 days which I'm very excited about. To see my family and friends. Then we head of to Los Angeles to shoot a video, then Mexico, Canada, and then back to London.
TR: Great! Does India feature on your list of places to come to with this album?
Darren: Always! I'm obsessed with India. In fact at various times on my calendar over the last couple of months India's been popping on and off various schedules. Nothing's confirmed as yet but I can tell you honestly that I am trying to come there. I just have wonderful memories from coming to India with Savage Garden. I still do, to this day, when people ask me about some of the most profound memories I've had in my career, my visit to India was one of them. I think that the people are so beautiful. And I'm a huge yoga fan. I've been practising yoga for five years and I know that it probably has nothing to do with what the locals consider yoga to be about but there is definitely a sense of spirit and calm and spirituality that I felt when I first came to India that I get from yoga. And I can't wait to come back and feel that again.

Why have you changed? Is it a different `you', less radio-friendly?
No, I was just really bored of myself. And I think I felt disappointed and disillusioned with the music scene.
You're doing lots of gay things now, aren't you?
We did Heaven.
And G-A-Y. And you're doing Manchester Pride.
Apparently I am. It's funny, it's actually hard to get onto these things. London Pride, I don't know if they thought I was gay enough or hip enough, whatever you have to be to be on there, but we couldn't get onto that one.
Did that hurt your feelings?
No, I just thought you wait and see, you'll be begging for me.
Did you think `I've got to gay this shit up a bit'?
God, I'm sure I have.
What, gayed it up?
I'm sure my whole career has been quite camp in some ways. I mean, come on, it's showbiz! This is possibly the most camp thing I've ever done actually, this record.
So how come you're doing the gay stuff when you haven't done it before?
Because I think with this record I can. For one, I think it's a really cool record. And I think that in the past I've been marketed to whatever the mainstream was, and anytime I wanted to do anything alternative, whether it's gay or whether it's doing a festival, no-one's ever put Darren Hayes and any of those things in the same
basket together. And certainly being marketed to a gay audience or even having exposure with a gay audience is something that I think people have been terrified for me to do in the past.
Why?
Well, because there's the fear that if you dare to perform to the gays that, are you gay and therefore, did you just alienate a whole section of the market? And you know me, I don't even think about sexuality anyway, when it comes to me being a performer. And I think it started to bother me that there was a whole audience that I was never really being aggressively marketed to.
Are you just using us?
That's the feeling I had on stage in Heaven, and it's interesting `cause during the first song, I think that was the sentence in most people's minds, it was like, `Are you just using us?' Whereas I think we were just celebrating, I think it felt really hip. It was one of the hippest, coolest things I've ever done. I didn't know people went on stage after 1am. Apparently, they do. But it was great and they just got it, they got the jokes, they got the irony. I'm sure a lot of people watch the video and think `what's going on?' But onstage in Heaven when they pulled out the sequinned blow-dryers, I think no-one batted an eyelid.
So you're not nervous about speaking to the gay press, because you've always held your cards close to your chest haven't you?
I think everyone else has always been nervous about me speaking to the gay press. You know me, I think I'm pretty naïve...
Did they think you were going to get talked into saying stuff that you didn't really want to say?
I think everyone's always concerned. I'm sure on some level there's some unwritten, very un-PC rule that if you sell records to girls, then you don't want to go to the gay media.
Are you never going to do power ballads again?
I'm sure the answer to that is I will never, ever. I've changed.
Why did you stop dying your hair and plucking your eyebrows?
You know, I think I only ever plucked them in the 90s. It's bad; everybody should just stop! It's just a bad look.
What about those crazy eyebrows everyone gets?
Oh, they just pull those out. I admit to those being forcibly removed.
Are there any other areas where hair gets forcibly removed?
No, I'm all hairy and proud of it.
Do you go to the gym a lot?
Can't you tell? Yeah, I do.
Do you have a good body image?
Yeah, I think finally I do.
What needs work?
My love of carbohydrates probably. I really love food and I'm 32 and I'm aware of what I have to do when I put a record out – eating a certain way and going to the gym. In-between records, I love putting on weight.
What's your best bit?
I think I have nice eyes, I don't have a problem with saying that. I don't feel like I could say, `Wow! My biceps are nice!' There are bits that other people say are nice. You need to ask them!

OPS! FALTOU ATUALIZAÇÃO, MAS O BLOG VOLTA COM DATAS PARA O BRASIL
Gente, desculpa pela falta de atualização do blog, mas eh q eu ando com falta de tempo (e de vontade...ooops!) para poder continuar atualizando sempre esse blog com noticias sobre o Darren. O que acontece eh q o meu gosto musical mudou um poukinho e pop jah nao eh lah bem o meu estilo favorito. Mas calma! O Darren ainda eh o meu favorito, embora a minha euforia por ele tenha dado uma amenizada...Anyway, têm saido varias noticias sobre ele esses tempos atuais, mas o mais importante pra gente eh sobre algumas datas de lançamento do clipe "Popular" na Mtv Brasil e tbm sobre o "Party in the Park 2004" q vai ao ar na TNT em outubro. Vamos para as datas:
- Estréia do clipe "Popular" na Mtv Brasil, dia 15 de setembro (quinta-feira) no Central. O programa vai ao ar a partir das 13h30. Fique de olho! É bastante provável que a Sarah mostre um trecho de Popular no programa Disk Mtv (18h, Mtv) de quarta-feira.
- Em relaçao ao "Party in the Park 2004", o evento será transmitido pelo canal pago TNT, no dia 8 de outubro (quinta-feira) às 22 hrs, com reprise durante toda a semana. Confira as datas das reprises no site da TNT - www.tntla.com

Darren Hayes publicará su segundo álbum solista en septiembre
MELBOURNE (LT24onLine).- El ex vocalista del dúo australiano Savage Garden, Darren Hayes, está preparando el lanzamiento de su segundo álbum solista, "The Tension and The Spark".
El primer single llevará por título "Popular", y en él narrará las peripecias que se viven para llegar a ser famoso. "'Popular' habla de nuestra creciente obsesión por la fama como vocación", dijo Hayes. "Estoy apuntando a mí mismo y al género que me hizo famoso... también tiene una increíblemente excitante y loca melodía".Hayes escribió y produjo la canción el el productor de música electrónica Robert Conley, indicando de esta manera un cambio de estilo. El álbum fue mezclado por Mike "Spike" Stent (Depeche Mode, Massive Attack).
Este será el primer lanzamiento de Hayes desde su debut solista, "Spin", en 2002.
"Spin" no pudo repetir el éxito logrado con Savage Garden, llevando a la decisión de cambiar el sonido.
El correspondiente video clip fue rodado en Londres, con imágenes del Museo de Madame Tussauds, Lords Cricket, Oxford Street y la estación Tottenham Court Road.
"The Tension and The Spark" saldrá a la venta en septiembre. Mientras tanto, el ex socio de Hayes en Savage Garden, Daniel Jones, ha decidido fundar su propio sello discográfico
